28-94. After ten hours playing Rematch that is my win loss ratio. 28-94. Yeah, I suck at Rematch. Am I as bad as I was when I started? No, not at all and that is what makes this game special. Sloclap knows how to design deep combat systems and their design DNA is all over this. When I first started playing Sifu, I was terrible and felt like the game may be literally impossible but eventually I was able to slowly get better and beat it. I felt a similar slow level of skill progression in Rematch. When I first started, my goaltending was lets say porous. Later, I spent most of my time as the goalie and I was getting saves left and right. The same goes for offense where you have near complete control over your character. If I whiffed a pass or missed a goal it was almost always my fault. I could never get the hang of dribbling but I’ve seen other players pull off some cool tricks and I am envious of them. When I first saw this game, I immediately thought of Rocket League. While Rematch is in many ways similar to Rocket League, I found the learning curve in Rematch much higher and more difficult. If you are to play Rematch with randoms, it’s a crapshoot. Players will leave games often, and most annoyingly hog the ball. Players at this point, do not seem to understand that the way to win in this game is to work as a team. At least in quickplay. I noticed in ranked mode that players were more often playing the game as it was intended to be played so I highly recommend you play this mode as soon as you unlock it or feel like you are ready. As an overall experience Rematch is barebones and it has all the tenants of an early access game. There is only one mode where you can play 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5. That’s it. The progression is mostly tied to a battle pass with no daily challenges other than winning your first game of the day. The tutorials are lacking and I wish there was a way to practice with other players since this is such a team focused game. While the core gameplay is great there is just not enough content here to justify paying 30 dollars. I played this on gamepass and I recommend you do so as well if you have any interest in checking this out. In Rematch, I found myself setting goals on which area I wanted to improve on. I think this points to how well designed and deep the gameplay systems are in this game. I just wish there was more to it.
