I am a self proclaimed Trekkie as well as a fan of Telltale like narrative driven adventure games. This sounded like an ideal game for me however, it suffers from a distinct lack of polish and whenever it presents you with an actual gameplay mechanic, it is miserable. It’s disappointing that the gameplay is so bad because the story is solid. Unlike the J.J. Abrams films, this game understands Star Trek. After I finished the game, I was tempted to replay it but some of the gameplay sequences are so bad and unintuitive that I could not subject myself to another playthrough. The game gives you more control over your character than the telltale games but it directly leads to a rough experience. There are some minigames that don’t make sense, there are instant fail stealth sequences, and you are constantly scanning the environment. All of this becomes tedious and I wish that it was less interactive, so I could just enjoy the story. If you are a Star Trek fan, this game is worth playing however, if you aren’t this is an easy skip.
