Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

Armored Core 6 is the first and only game in the series I have played and suffice to say I am now a fan.  Since I am new to the franchise, I can’t compare it to the other entries; however, I can speak to what it was like to play this as a newbie with a hopefully fresh perspective.  From Software has created some of the best combat systems in video game history with the souls games and that mastery of combat design continues with AC6.  Is AC 6 similar to the souls games? Absolutely not.  Other than their staple epic boss designs and high difficulty curve, AC6 completely separates itself from comparison to the souls franchise.  In the souls games combat is slow and methodical, in AC6 it is lightning fast and twitchy.  Offense is the best defense in this game and From provides you with a power fantasy where most of the time you are destroying the competition instead of constantly feeling like you are barely hanging on like in the souls games.  The game has a deep customization system with over 200 parts to make your Mech your own.  I went from a fast and quick mech with a sword to a literal tank.  I spent hours simply messing with the paint job of my Mech. I am not a player that engages much with the look of my character or in this case Mech but in this game I felt attached to my creation so I cared about what it looked like.  With a From Software game, there is inevitably going to be a discussion surrounding the difficulty. While there are some really challenging bosses here, personally I do not think this game is nearly as difficult as the souls games.  The game encourages you to change your build to fit whatever challenge is in front of you.  While this pressure to change your build to meet the challenge sacrifices the freedom I felt playing Elden Ring, this is still another certified banger from From Software.
