The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

I am a massive 3D Zelda fan however, I have not played most of the top down Zelda games. With this significant blind spot disclosed I can say that this is a solid, if unremarkable entry in the series.  It takes some of the player agency and creativity from the open world Zelda games and inserts it into a more simplified top down Zelda adventure.  The gameplay consists of Zelda being able to copy most objects and enemies to use in different capacities.  Other than a temporary sword fighter ability, Zelda cannot directly attack her enemies so instead she copies her victims to attack her soon to be victims.  Zelda also has the ability to copy objects such as beds or tables to traverse the environment and solve puzzles.  The game does give you tools to be creative.  I soon found out I could sadistically kill any enemy by spawning a water cube then dragging them into it just for them to immediately drown.  The UI is the game achilles heel and really drags down the entire experience.  There are over a hundred enemies and objects to collect and copy however, the game does not allow you to favorite your most useful objects.  The game has a horizontal menu where you are constantly scrolling through a quickly growing collection of copies.  This discourages experimentation with lesser used copies because it is a pain to scroll to select them.  You can organize them by most used but this only made me use my go tos more than experiment with newer copies.  The dungeons here are mostly forgettable as they do not have any distinct or unique visual palette or gameplay mechanic that separates them from another.  You can use the same tactics to get through any dungeon.  The smoothie system is a mechanic that should have been left on the cutting room floor.  You create smoothies by gathering ingredients and combining them. Most concoctions result in a health boost which is not useful since you are almost always sending your minions to attack enemies from a distance so it is rare that you will take any damage.  I understand that nintendo makes games for everyone but this game is a bit too easy.  The low difficulty is relevant because it also lowers the motivation for the player to use other copies since you can just spam a low cost copy.  For example, throughout most of the game I spammed crabs at enemies since it was low cost and high damage.  I only experimented with other minions because I wanted to experiment, not because the game was motivating me to do so.  Either way if you are a Zelda fan, this game is fun but I doubt it will linger in your mind or end up on your list of favorite Zelda games.
