The Lost Crown is a solid Metroidvania that marks Ubisofts best game since Immortals: Fenyx rising. Ubisoft games typically are safe and do not add much innovation to the genres that they make games in. The Lost Crown adds accessibility to the genre through the addition of the ability to take pictures of doors or items that you cannot access yet that permanently stay on your map. I often get lost easily in Metroidvania’s but the map here is intuitive and logically folds back on itself so I never once got lost for more than a couple minutes. The combat is surprisingly deep with an almost fighting game level of depth to it. The platforming is well done, tight and feels like a less challenging Ori and the Blind Forest. As with all Metroidvanias you navigate the world, fight bosses, unlock abilities that allow you to progress, and find items. The presentation here is also well done with a cool artstyle and some really interesting looking environments. Given how strong this game is and how it genuinely advances the genre, it is sad to see that Ubisoft shut down the studio that worked on it. If you are a fan of Metroidvanias, Prince of Persia, or both, you owe it to yourself to play this game.
