Sparks of Hope is a solid sequel that retains the challenging yet accessible tactics gameplay of the first entry. Like most video game sequels, Sparks of Hope is bigger in scale than the first entry. Instead of a map with individual levels there are now open maps that are filled with collectibles, optional puzzles, and side quests. The core levels are similar to the first entry however now you can move freely which really opens up the gameplay and gives you more options and approaches to defeating enemies. Sparks are essentially abilities you unlock and can upgrade. For example, some sparks add elemental damage to weapons, while others add passive abilities such as a shield or the ability to go invisible. These sparks are a fun new addition that allows you to customize your characters. Sparks of Hope adds a surprising amount of new mechanics to the core gameplay of Mario + Rabbids and if you are a fan of the first entry, this is a safe recommendation.
