What can I say that hasn’t already been said about Elden Ring? Not much probably however, this is the first game in the souls series that has grabbed me. I have always been scared away from the narrative surrounding the souls games. Everything I saw about it was that these were crushingly difficult games. I come to video games as a form of escape and relaxation, so the high difficulty steered me away from the series. Elden Ring now easily being in my top 5 favorite games of all time which makes me want to return to the other entries in the souls series. I have never played an open world game quite like Elden Ring. No game has given me more freedom than ER. There are hundreds of dungeons, bosses, and secrets to uncover. My favorite part of the game was not the combat, it was exploring and witnessing truly stunning vistas and mind blowing secrets. This game has a sense of loneliness and almost cosy vibes that are fully unique to Elden Ring. Given how high the difficulty is in this game, I found this game almost therapeutic and paradoxically relaxing. Dying is just part of this game, once you accept that, the stakes are not as high as you would think. Elden Ring is by far the most accessible game in the souls series. If you can’t beat a boss, simply go somewhere else and try a different one. This may sound like a glorified boss rush in an open world however, this is far from the truth. There are so many cool things to discover that have nothing to do with combat at all. My friend was also a big fan of the game and it was so fun talking to him and seeing how different our playthroughs were. We exchanged secrets we found, weapons and builds we used, bosses we struggled with and we both shared a sense of awe at the sheer ambition that this game has in spades. Even if you are not a souls fan, I urge you to play this game. Like myself, this may become one of your favorite games of all time.
