The discourse surrounding Crackdown 3 was harsh. A lot of this negativity and disappointment surrounding this game was valid given how long it took to release and what the final product turned out to be. Having played it in 2025 and having years of separation from the online discourse, Crackdown 3 is not the worst game ever released as the discourse would make you think. It certainly is not great, however if you loved the first game like I did, this is an enjoyable romp, especially with a friend. Crackdown 3 came out in 2019 but it feels like a game from the mid 2000’s. This isn’t a bad thing and the core gameplay remains fun. Collecting orbs and seeing your super cop get stronger is still satisfying. The guns are fun and it is a joy to cause chaos in this relatively small open world. The campaign is short, and it is disappointing that the destructible environments that they promised aren’t here but Crackdown 3 still feels like a fun time capsule worth playing if you are a fan of the franchise.
