Space Marine 2 feels like a game ripped straight out of the 360/PS3 era with modern graphics. This is both a blessing and a curse since while it is refreshing to play such a simple game that includes a single player, co-op, and competitive mode, not every mode is created equal and the simplicity of the gameplay can grow repetitive and tiresome after a while. The story mode is a solid playthrough with an impressive amount of enemies thrown at you; however, it lacks any true set piece moments. The strongest part of this package is the co-op multiplayer missions. These missions team you up with 3 other players and has a truly great progression system that allows you to choose from 5 different classes that each have their own skill tree. This depth makes this mode far more replayable and fun than the single player campaign. The competitive mode is barebones and easily the weakest part of the whole package. I wish that they added the meaningful progression systems of the co-op multiplayer mode to both the competitive and single player modes. If you are strictly a single player gamer, this purchase is probably not worth it but if you like multiplayer co-op modes like Helldivers 2, you will find much to enjoy in this game.
