The Casting of Frank Stone

Supermassive’s new game set in the Dead by Daylight universe is a baffling step back from their previous games that included The Quarry and Until Dawn.  Those games had so many decisions that could impact the narrative and eventually the ending.  In the Casting of Frank Stone there are decidedly less decisions and you can feel from the start that you have less control over the overall narrative.  Gone are the days of accidentally not hitting a quick time event and your character dying.  The story is uninteresting, with bland characters that I can not see anyone connecting with in any real way.  Supermassive’s games have never been that scary but they leaned into genre conventions and tropes in a fun way.  This game doesn’t really fall into any subgenre of horror, it feels rudderless and lacks any sense of identity.  Frank Stone will not be getting a call back from me anytime soon.
