Balatro

Balatro is a dangerous game.  It is incredibly addicting and nails the roguelike feeling of just one more run.  In my 30 hours of play, I have only won once.  It happened only 4 hours into the game and I attribute it mostly to pure dumb luck.  The game is essentially if you made poker into solitaire with Jokers that add different modifiers to help you to win binds/rounds.  For example, if you like playing straights there is a joker that allows you to skip a number within a sequence.  There is no guarantee that you will get this joker; the game forces you to change your strategies on the fly depending on the jokers that show up in the shop between binds.  Luck and randomness can be frustrating in some rounds depending on what Joker’s you get, and it can be soul crushing to get so close to winning for the game to not give you what you need and it results in a wasted run.  Outside of new decks that give you some benefits, they do not help you much so there aren’t really any substantial permanent unlocks that increase your chances of winning.  The fact that I continued to play for 25 hours after my first and only win shows the strength of how fun and addicting this game is. If you are not a fan of roguelike deck builders, this is not the game for you, but if you are, this may quickly become one of your favorite games that you will not be able to put down.
